Well the 2024 National FCCLA Conference is in the books. We head back to Colorado tomorrow. So proud of Reece and Jaylie for making it to Nationals their first year and scoring a bronze. This was truly an incredible experience. Mrs Mundell and I have a better understanding of how FCCLA works and new ideas to bring back for next year. This week we tried to balance FCCLA participation and taking in the sights of Seattle. Space Needle, Chihuly Glass Museum, Poulsbo, Pop Culture Museum, Alki Beach

This is Day Two of our National FCCLA experience. This morning, we took a ferry to Bainbridge Island. There, we found a beautiful nature reserve called Bloedel Reserve. It is a series of trails totaling two miles. The reserve started as the ancestral land of the Squamish people. There are so many beautiful trees, wildflowers, and brush. We walked down Winslow Way, looked at a few shops, and boarded the ferry for Seattle. This afternoon, it was time for the girls to wear the red Jacket for the first time and attend our state meeting. Following the state meeting, we participated in the opening session to kick off Nationals. There are over 8,000 students at this conference. The opening session was full of information and a keynote speaker named Caleb Campbell. He is a former Westpoint Cadet and NFL linebacker. The U.S. Army sponsored the opening session. Major Ohlaff, a Public Relations Officer from the Army Reserves, spoke to us about her career as a soldier and a teacher. She has taught Family Consumer Science classes and participated in FCCLA. The night ended at about 8:30 pm. Tomorrow, there will be numerous activities at the conference.

The day started off with an early wake-up call at 3:00 am. The airport was packed with people, and we snaked our way through the line to get to our gate. Our plane took off at 5:15 am and arrived in Seattle at 7:30 am. We are attending the National FCCLA Conference. Our hotel is excellent, with a view of downtown Seattle. Today, we had to register for the FCCLA conference. Reece and Jaylie will compete in Public Policy Advocate on the 1st. The conference starts tomorrow with some events in the afternoon and the opening session tomorrow evening. Mrs. Mundell, Jaylie, Reece, and I walked about 24,000 steps and many stairs, taking in the sights of downtown Seattle and the Pike Place Market. The market had a ton of unique shops. We had a late lunch with clam chowder and fish and chips. The piers were great to watch the boats and ferries come in and out. We ended our day with delicious gelato and a long hike back up the hill to our hotel. We are looking forward to a busy day tomorrow. Thank you to the school board, Mr. Hargrove, and Mrs. Westphal for allowing us a great experience.
