EAGLE EVENTS FOR THE WEEK

Sorry for all the posts, but we have been busy. I am excited to announce that we will have a LEGO Robotics team this year. Some of the JH STEAM class, plus a couple of additional members, will work on the SUBMERGED challenge. We received our game mat and LEGO challenge pieces this week. I want to thank Doug H. for putting our new Lego table together. He has also been assembling all of the challenge pieces with the help of Maddox H. and Henry S. I am adding a link at the bottom if you want to watch what the kids have to accomplish. We can have a team of up to 10 kids compete. There is a competition in Liberal in the early spring. This competition teaches kids about block coding and using a robot to complete tasks. They must design a robot to push, pull, lift, carry, and drag items around the playing field. They must program speed, distance, turning radius, and other variables to receive maximum points on each challenge. https://youtu.be/J5u-2q_K3O0?feature=shared Just copy and paste the link in your browser to watch the video.

This year, I have a JH STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) class. It consists of 7th and 8th graders. So far, we have created ramps out of Keva Planks to learn about gravity, angles, speed, friction, and other variables. The students had to design a ramp to carry a ping pong ball from point A to point B in 5 seconds. The next challenge had students create a creature from cardboard, paper, and tape. They had to design a new creature and explain everything, all of its characteristics. Last week, the challenge was to build a shelter for a stranded pirate. They were only allowed to use one piece of cardboard, newspaper, sticks, construction paper, and tape. The structure had to withstand wind and not move or fall apart. All of our challenges require the students to work through the design process(ask, imagine, plan, create, improve). They must work as a team to complete each challenge.

High School FACS class has spent some time in the kitchen. We are working on cooking techniques and trying different cuisine. Last week the students made orange chicken and sesame chicken. They have practiced knife skills and will continue as we learn how to make new items. The class learned about what is in our food. They studied food labels and looked up ingredients

Can you believe we have already completed three weeks of school!!!!! The JH Life Skills class hit the ground running. We have spent time in the classroom learning about jobs, budgets, and what is the difference between a need and a want. This last week we started baking.
