Mrs. Laiken

Are you enjoying your time at Walsh?  I am really enjoying my time at Walsh, and have felt so welcomed by everyone here.

What do you like best about your job?  I love that every day is something new and different, and it’s always a surprise what the kids will say or do.

Is there anything that surprises you about working with preschoolers?  I love seeing the kids walk through the door at breakfast everyday and hearing all the stories they make up.

What is the funniest thing a preschooler has said to you? The funniest thing a preschooler has said to me…walking with a student down the hallway and I was asked by another student, ”Can I pet your brother?”

Coach Jensen

Have you worked in the education field before?  I have worked a little bit in the education field before coming to Walsh. I was the daycare coordinator for Campo School and also taught elementary school PE while I was there. I was kind of all over the place and taught the preschool when the teacher was out on maternity leave too. I also coached for a little bit at Springfield. I was the head volleyball and basketball coach for the Junior High School and since then have coached rec basketball for a couple of years.

What is your favorite part about coaching?  I absolutely love everything about coaching. Growing up, I played every sport that was offered from 3rd grade on. I lived for sports and was very competitive in everything that I participated in... I still am very competitive. Getting to teach young girls a sport that I loved so much is very rewarding. Watching them learn and grow through the season is something I can't explain. Getting to know each athlete individually and teaching them how to play to their abilities is amazing.

Do you have a coach or teacher that impacted your life in a positive way? One coach that had a big impact on me was Sharla Lasley, she was the best of the best. I had her as a coach for volleyball and track from 7th grade until I graduated. She taught me so much through the years about sports and life in general that will always stay with me. I have to laugh sometimes when I'm coaching because I hear her words come out of my mouth quite a bit. She is someone who played a HUGE part in my life and still is someone I reach out to for advice today.

Did you have a favorite subject when you were in school?  My favorite subject in school was definitely math. I had a great teacher who made it fun and challenging for me! I am excited to be here at Walsh and have enjoyed it so much!
