COVID-19 UPDATE - March 14, 2020 Walsh School District RE-1 is actively monitoring the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) situation and its impacts both locally and statewide. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. All updates will be posted on our official district website and Facebook page. The situation is rapidly evolving and we continue to receive and monitor information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), as well as information from the Governor’s Office and the Colorado Department of Education. Our plan is to continue to monitor and follow current and updated orders, and to focus on cleaning and disinfecting during our regularly scheduled spring break. Currently, CHSAA has cancelled all activities, including athletic practices through April 6th, 2020. In line with these decisions, we have cancelled all before or after school facility use of buildings by the community, and any before or after school district related activities until April 6th ,2020. We will re-evaluate these decisions as appropriate. It is important to note that there is the potential for school closure. As of today, March 14, 2020, school is expected to resume on Monday March 23, 2020 at the conclusion of our scheduled spring break. We will continue to work diligently behind the scenes to ensure that if closure occurs, we have plans in place to meet the needs of our students. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. Thank you for your support as we navigate through this unprecedented situation! ALL Remaining State Basketball Tournaments Have Been Cancelled CHSAAMARCH 12, 2020, 11:03 PM Throughout the process of communicating our plan regarding the state basketball tournaments in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have maintained that the tournaments would be played unless a state agency or a host venue made a decision affecting that status. On Thursday evening, the CHSAA office was informed by the University of Denver that the school would no longer be able to host the Class 3A state basketball tournament. With uncertainty at all additional sites, including a state of emergency declaration by the City of Denver, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the remainder of all state basketball tournaments in all classes. "Everything we've done up to this point was to try and keep the experience of a state basketball tournament for our student participants and high school communities," said CHSAA commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green. "In the face of this unprecedented public health emergency, we are compelled to discontinue play in all tournaments." The move is in line with similar decisions from the NCAA, which cancelled all remaining winter sports championships and spring sports championships. Additionally, other high school associations, such as Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, California and Kentucky have made similar announcements. Some of those, including Wisconsin and Kansas, canceled on Thursday night. "We want to thank those who have supported us through the difficult decisions in these uncertain times," Blanford-Green said.

Please meet at Butler Hancock Gym at 3:30 PM so we can all go in together. Below is a message from CHSAA addressing this issue. All: Thank you for all the care and deliberation you took today to help the process in getting guests into the various arenas. We are asking for your assistance one more time and that is to tell your community they shouldn’t check in until 30 minutes before game. Coming before that strains the facility’s ability to maintain the recommended social distances of 6-8 feet. Appreciate your help in this regard. Bert Borgmann Assistant Commissioner bborgmann@chsaa.org (303) 344-5050 (720) 581-8103

March 11, 2020 TO: CHSAA State Basketball Qualifying Teams FR: Bert Borgmann, Assistant Commissioner RE: Guests at State Tournament Games As noted in the first announcement, the details of who would be allowed access to the state basketball games would be fluid. We have been able to work through details of allowing each player listed on the team’s gate list to have four guests in attendance. Essential personnel are only those who have been submitted on the official CHSAA gate list by schools and will be able to enter the venue. Your assistance is needed in the entry procedure No spirit teams or bands will be permitted entry. Media will be permitted to attend, if they have a CHSAA-issued pass. The teams and guests must enter at the team entrance where the team personnel will be checked in. All guests of each person on the gate list must arrive together in order to enter the arena. The designated school administrator will be responsible to ensure an orderly entry of teams and guests. The administrator must meet with the CHSAA site director one hour before the start of your game at the team entrance to help with the check-in of the teams and guests. At the conclusion of the game, you must ensure that these guests exit the arena. You may also need to identify the team’s Essential Staff that may not be on the game list. These include the Superintendent, Principal, Trainer and District Athletic Director if they are not included on the gate list. Please contact the CHSAA representative upon your arrival at the arena. Please note that there will be NO Athletic Directors meetings at 8:00 a.m./3:15 p.m. at 1A, 2A and 3A. In response to several inquiries from family members of participants, each player will be allowed to have a maximum of four guests attend games. CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann will be communicating directly with schools on instructions of how those guests will enter the venues. CHSAA just announced their decision to limit state tournament attendance to essential team personnel only, without fans in attendance. Essential personnel means only those who have been submitted on the official CHSAA gate list by schools will be able to enter the venue. Media will be permitted to attend, if they have a CHSAA-issued pass.
