On Friday, November 16th, the Walsh High School Service and Leadership Team completed their third workday for the 2018-2019 school year.  This project was not only fun for the members to participate in, but brought kindness and school spirit into our school through painted murals.  Murals included kindness sayings on the girls bathroom stalls and murals to keep athletes and others motivated in the weight room.  Please come sneak a peek if you can!  Thank you, SLT!

CHELSEA ALTON NAMED BOETTCHER SCHOLAR SEMIFINALIST

Chelsea Alton has been selected as one of 300 semifinalists for the 2019 Boettcher Scholarship.  With submission from more than 1,400 qualified seniors, this year's applicant pool was intensely competitive, making the selection process incredibly difficult.  As a result, advance to the semifinalist round is a significant achievement.  Chelsea has distinguished herself among this high successful group of her peers through her impressive academic record, leadership achievements and dedication to service.  GREAT JOB, CHELSEA!

Mr. Don Mundell successfully wrote a grant ($32,833.72) for a Torchmate 4800-FC80 CNC Plasma Cutting Table.  Thank you, Mr. Don Mundell and the Emma Belle Tolbert Charitable Trust!

Walsh High School would like to thank the Cooper-Clark Foundation for sponsoring the purchase of forty TI-84 Plus calculators.  This allowed our math classrooms to be fully equipped with functional calculators and accessible to our 7-12 math students.

Pictured below are the seventh grade students, along with their teacher Mrs. Sires, trying them out!

The Walsh High School FOR Club members (Friends of Rachel) held an activity for all high school students during advisory class on Thursday October, 25. The students participated in a game called telephone. In this game, one person starts a sentence and whispers it in the person's ear sitting next to them. You can only say the sentence once to the person. This process continues until the phrase reaches  the person at the end of the line and is announced out loud. We compare this to the starting phrase to see how much it changes. This game is an example of how words can be twisted around and misconstrued when traveling through several people. It is stressed to think before you speak and it’s best to avoid talking about others.

The second activity was to focus on students interacting with each other and having fun. We played musical chairs and when a person was bumped out, they received a treat. The treat was a cookie with a random act of kindness taped to it. Students were asked to carry out this act of kindness and pin it to the bulletin board in the junior high hallway to show we are incorporating kindness in our school.
